Checkups, Cleanings & Fillings
Even with ideal oral hygiene habits, regular checkups are instrumental in maintaining your dental health. During your first visit, we’ll assess the condition of your teeth and gums to determine how often we’d like to see you.
If you brush and floss twice a day, you might only need to come in once every year and a half, but someone prone to cavities or other dental issues might require a check-up as often as every three months.
Fillings
Cavities are caused by bacteria that linger on a tooth for long periods of time, producing chemicals that damage or decay the tooth’s structure. Cavities can be detected through a careful clinical examination and x-rays.
Two of the biggest misconceptions about cavities are that they are always painful and that they can’t appear on a tooth that has had a root canal. In its early stages, a cavity might be difficult to notice, which is why regular checkups are vital.
A filling is the ideal way to restore a tooth’s function after a cavity. Once the compromised area is anesthetized, the decayed portion of the tooth is removed and replaced by an amalgam, composite, or porcelain filling. Each type of filling has its own merits, and our dentists are happy to help you figure out which one is best for you.
